Well after a false start in 2021 due to Covid, our trekkers were off on an adventure of a lifetime!
We had 9 passionate people fundraising for melanoma research, wanting to make a difference and head off into the great Aussie outback. Due to a back injury and a snafu re vaccinations, then there were 7.
Sisters Kathryn and Jackie, father/daughter team Brian and Zoe, our own board member Mark and his mate Barry, and our newly appointed Ambassador Fiona all met up in Alice Springs Botanic Gardens for a briefing and traditional Welcome to Country ceremony. They were thrilled to be meeting AMRF’S CEO Marisa, who flew in to personally thank them all and cheer them off.
They call it the Larapinta Challenge and they would be right about that! Despite the mice which visited the campsite at night, no showers on the trip, the trekkers were able to cool off and wash in the breathtakingly cold Gorge. They have all returned with raving reviews. The weather was stunning, the group enjoyed getting to know each other and sharing the experience when they started out as strangers.
According to all the feedback, everyone was very impressed by the guides who were not only very knowledgeable but went out of their way to deliver a somewhat spiritual experience, with their well-researched history and respect for the Arrernte Land.
Not to spoil the story, unfortunately Mark tested positive to Covid just 3 days in, so had to leave the group to keep the others safe and able to complete the trip.
The reviews are in: amazing, fantastic guides, good food, stunning scenery, fulfilling, reflective, friendship, spiritual, terrific.
Enjoy the photos.
Thank you once again to everyone – we are honoured and thrilled to have you all as part of our AMRF Community.
Together you raised an incredible $118,987 !! Thank you Kathryn, Jackie, Zoe, Fiona, Brian, Mark, Barry and special mention to absent trekkers Judi and Daryl.
