The Australian Melanoma Research Foundation (AMRF) visited the Coonalpyn Show on 17 October 2026, providing free Skin Spot Checks and skin health education to members of the regional community.
“Thank you Harriet and to the AMRF for being here, supporting our community and sharing your knowledge and skills.” – Prue Cartledge, Rural Health Network

Across the day, 72 participants received a check, with 9 referred for further clinical assessment. A total of 16 potentially concerning lesions were identified, including two suspicious for melanoma.
The value of raising awareness was particularly evident in one participant’s journey to attend. After hearing skin health advocate Harriet speak on the radio, the participant made a significant drive to access a Skin Spot Check, highlighting the importance of community outreach and making early detection services accessible to regional Australians.
Prue Cartledge from the Rural Health Network shared her appreciation for the initiative:
“Thank you Harriet and to the AMRF for being here, supporting our community and sharing your knowledge and skills.”
AMRF thanks Harriet, Robyn Miegel, all the Coonalpyn Show organisers, and everyone who took the time to participate. Initiatives like these help raise awareness of melanoma and other skin cancers, encourage people to seek medical advice about concerning spots, and bring skin health services closer to regional communities.
