Spot a Spot and Save a Life

The Spot-A-Spot microskill course is designed to equip hairdressers, barbers and beauticians with the skills to recognise suspicious spots on their client’s head and neck. The purpose of the short online course is to increase an early awareness of possible melanomas. This important training product has been developed by TAFE NSW in conjunction with Hair and Beauty Australia, Keune, Airyday and the AMRF.
Australia has one of the highest rates of melanoma in the world, with one Australian being diagnosed every 30 minutes and around 1300 deaths every year. One of the AMRF’s objectives is to promote early detection. 90% of melanomas can be successfully treated if caught early.
Spot-A-Spot is designed for hairdressers to “start the conversation with their client” if they see a suspicious skin spot. The theme of the course is see something, say something.
Spot-A-Spot is designed to be completed in 45 minutes and will be available online. Participants are given 3 months from date of enrolment to complete the course and receive a course completion certificate.
AMRF will receive a portion of the enrolment fees to provide extra funding for its research, awareness and early detection programs.
We encourage everyone in this industry to consider completing the course and support this very important initiative.
AMRF would like to thank the Principal Partners, TAFE NSW, Keune, Airyday and HABA
AMRF also acknowledges those individuals who have contributed their time and their expertise in developing the course, including Deborah Hutton, Dr Pascale Guitera, Danielle Fischer, Stephanie Friedlander, Maureen Harding.
